What elections are happening in November?
Federal, State, and local General Elections will appear on the ballot for this November. In addition to the Presidential Election, there will be county officials, local school board members, and city council members being elected. Voters should review sample ballots for a complete list of all races and candidates. Sample ballots will be posted on our website by late September. How, where and when can one register to vote?
Voters should register to vote before October 5, 2020 to be eligible for the November 2020 General Election. They may do so in-person at the Voter Registration Department at 1301 Sam Houston Ave., Ste. 114, Huntsville, TX 77340; or they may print, complete, and mail a voter registration application in to our office. A downloadable voter registration application can be found on our website. (https://www.co.walker.tx.us/department/index.php?structureid=39)
What does one require to vote?
Registered voters must present one of the seven forms of acceptable photo identification when appearing to vote. Here is a link to the State form regarding photo ID. (https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/forms/id/poster-24×36-aw-voter.pdf)
Some people fear that if they vote in a particular manner, they may be affected and this drives me to educate the people who are now naturalized citizens on the voting process and the confidentiality of the process.
In the State of Texas, every registered voter has the right to cast their vote in privacy. A voted ballot is NEVER linked to the voter who voted that ballot. Voters are (1) first qualified as being registered voters and are checked-in, they are (2) then issued a ballot based on what political subdivisions they are qualified to vote in, (3) allowed to mark their ballot in privacy, and then (4) instructed to cast their voted ballot into a precinct scanner/tabulator before exiting the polls.
